About Us: Councillors

Dave Bell

I have been a UKIP councillor for West Heath ward since October 2014.

I am retired, which allows me to attend to residents calls 24/7.

Residents problems come in all shapes and sizes, but I have enjoyed immensely the satisfaction of listening and then helping with residents concerns.

Sometimes problems are not strictly council issues but can be health related, or family issues. Often it is simply guidance that is needed to find the right organisations to help.

Currently, I am looking forward to standing as the UKIP candidate for North Farnborough in the Hampshire County Council elections in May 2017

Having seen the problems that the Conservatives are causing by reducing services across the board, I wish to exercise a degree of common sense into the decisions made by Hampshire County Council

During the summer I have been out and about as usual with my colleague Mark Staplehurst, clearing over grown alleyways and footpaths. Mark has now got an official 'Horticultural Licence' from H.C.C. to make us all official. The only councillors in the area to be officially recognised, going out and helping residents get from A to B without getting caught by brambles. Cost to the council .... nothing.

Referendum Issues:-

Early 2016, I could be found with my UKIP companions, around Farnborough town handing out 'Leave' leaflets. Trying to persuade people to vote Leave. You didn't need much persuading, I think you had all had enough of EU control by the time voting came around. Thank you for your courage and support.

Now we need to make sure that the UK makes the most of it's new found freedom. This is why it's important that UKIP is there to play it's part to get what you voted for. If you support us, we will be able to support your wishes.

Mark Staplehurst

I have been an elected Borough councillor for West Heath ward since May 2007, when I was elected as a Conservative Councillor, then again in 2011, shortly after which I felt the Conservatives locally and nationally had deserted not only me, but my residents, finding out that the local party were “there for the party before the residents” I felt was totally insulting to those who elected their spokesmen and women to such a privileged position. I then stood in the all-out election with two other colleagues in the Borough Elections of 2012, and we won all three of the Ward seats for UKIP, being THE ONLY WARD IN THE COUNTRY winning three seats in one Ward, an Honour given to us by our residents for working hard for them not on Party politics! The following year I stood in the County Elections for Farnborough West and surprisingly won that by 150 or so Votes, putting me as a voice on HCC with 9 other UKIP Councillors, ensuring we spoke up against many of the Party Policies the Torys continually try to push through. Finally in 2016 I once again defended my seat in West Heath Ward, and am proud to say I won with a 52% majority.

I work in the Medical Research sector, 3-4 days per week, which leaves me two full days for HCC work and every Saturday in my Ward, something I enjoy very much, as have been out all day, every Saturday for 9 years.

More recently I have applied for and been the only County Councillor to have applied for and been granted a “Cultivation License” to work on the  Highways in my division, as myself and my team are regularly seen out cutting back brambles, nettles and overhanging branches in the many alleyways and paths in my Division.

Other areas I am passionate about is helping and supporting our elderly residents and I work closely with and support a number of local groups including; We’ll Meet Again, St Johns Drop in and many others as well as visiting many elderly and vulnerable residents in their homes or at St Johns Court Extra Care home.

I do a lot of work with Parents of Children with special needs and also people with mental health issues, this is very frustrating due to the Government funding cuts and the Tory policies on continuing to cut essential services, whilst making funds available for Aid to other countries, I believe charity should start at home to our own people before we trot off millions of £s to other countries where the people who need the support never get it anyway.

I sit on the Economy, Transport and Environment and Policy and Review Select committees at Hampshire, as well as being on the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority.

As an ex-Serviceman I am very involved in the welfare of ex-servicemen, especially those suffering PTSD from service during Operation Banner in Northern Ireland  from 1969 – 1992 as well as the Homeless Veterans  across the Country.
